Vor seiner Tätigkeit bei CRH plc, war Donal CEO von AER BIO, einem irischen Biotechnologie Startup sowie Commercial Manager bei Aquamarine Power, einem schottischen Technologieentwickler für erneuerbare Energien. Donal startete seine Karriere als Berater bei McKinsey & Company und Accenture.

Donal hat einen INSEAD MBA, einen Masterabschluss in Engineering von der Dublin City University in Irland und ein Diplôme d'Ingénieur von der Télécom SudParis in Frankreich.
